The legislative session came to an end today with the Assembly gaveling out a little after 7 a.m. and the Senate adjourning shortly after 1 a.m. on Friday, June 21.
It was a very busy session with the Legislature passing many more bills than in previous sessions, due in large part to the Democrats holding the majority in both Houses for the first time in many years.
Many of the Democrats’ top priority initiatives passed in the last few months of session and a few fell by the wayside.
What didn’t pass?
Legislation to authorize the sale of recreational marijuana in the state, legalization of gestational surrogacy, and expansion of prevailing wage, to name a few.
What did pass?
Driver’s licenses for undocumented immigrants, farm workers’ labor rights, sexual harassment law changes, a sweeping climate change bill, rent reforms, decriminalization of marijuana, and expansion of the MWBE program.
